How to judge the quality of engine oil

I hope it will help. 1. Viscosity detection Put the lubricating oil meeting the quality standard into the test tube, seal it with cork and wax, do not fill it, and leave a space about 5mm high. Put the test tube to be tested into another test tube. The specification and oil content of the test tube used shall be the same as that of the previous test tube. It shall also be sealed with cork and wax. At the same time, turn the two test tubes upside down and observe the rising speed of bubbles. If the rising speed exceeds the standard bubble, the viscosity of the oil is low. On the contrary, the viscosity is very high. 2. Lubrication performance test The lubricating performance of lubricating oil is related to its viscosity. Generally speaking, no viscosity or reduced viscosity means poor lubrication performance. After the lubricating performance is reduced, the adhesion or adhesion will deteriorate accordingly, unable to form an oil film with sufficient strength and play a good lubricating role. Performance test: rub the thumb and index finger stained with lubricating oil against each other, if there is a sense of viscosity. It can be concluded that it has better lubrication performance. How to identify whether the lubricating oil has deteriorated

The lubricant is dark black, foam and emulsifying. Finger rubbing, no stickiness, astringency or smell. The water droplets on the white paper are dark brown, with no yellow penetration area or a large amount of black. If not replaced in time, the wear of parts will be accelerated, the service life will be affected, and even safety accidents will occur. Therefore, it is particularly important to regularly check whether the lubricating oil is deteriorated and replace it in time. Here are some simple identification methods: (1) Oil flow observation method Take two measuring cups, one containing the lubricating oil to be inspected and the other on the table. Lift the measuring cup filled with lubricating oil 30-40cm away from the desktop, tilt it, make the lubricating oil slowly flow into the empty cup, and observe its flow. The lubricating oil with good quality shall flow slender, uniform and continuous. If the oil flows fast and slowly, sometimes a large amount of oil will flow down, indicating that the lubricating oil has deteriorated. (2) Hand twist Twist the lubricant between the thumb and index finger and grind it repeatedly. Better lubricating oil, feel lubrication, less wear debris and no friction. If you feel a great sense of friction between your fingers, such as sand, it indicates that there are many impurities in the lubricating oil and can not be used again. Replace with new lubricating oil. (3) Lighting method On a sunny day, lift up the lubricating oil with a screwdriver at an angle of 45 degrees to the horizontal plane, compare it with the sunlight, observe the oil droplets, and then under the light, it can be clearly seen that there are no wear debris in the lubricating oil. It can continue to work. If there is too much wear debris, replace the lubricating oil. (4) Oil droplet tracing method Take a clean white filter paper and drop a few drops of oil on the filter paper. After the lubricating oil leaks, if there is black powder on the surface and the hand feels astringent, it indicates that there are many impurities in the lubricating oil. Good lubricating oil, no powder, dry and smooth feel, with yellow marks.

Gear lubricating oil and vehicle lubricating oil are different

Gear oil is different from vehicle oil. Most people believe that SAE 90 gear oil is much thicker than SAE grade 40 or 50 automotive oil. In fact, their viscosity is the same. The difference lies in the classification used in the calculation. The former adopts SAE gear lubricating oil classification calculation, and the latter adopts SAE engine lubricating oil classification calculation. Another major difference is that they are produced with different additives. Vehicle lubricating oil shall be able to resist the chemical by-products produced by gasoline or diesel combustion, and detergent, dispersant and other additives shall be added. Since the internal combustion engine is equipped with an oil pump and the bearings are lubricated with hydrodynamic lubrication film, the engine does not need extreme pressure additives used in gear lubricating oil. Both engine oil and gear oil contain anti-wear additives, which need to lubricate, cool and protect components. The pressure of gear lubricating oil is high, which tends to form boundary lubrication. In this case, a complete liquid lubrication film will not appear between the two friction surfaces. For example, both car and truck differentials have ring and pinion hypoid gear sets. Hypoid gear sets can lead to boundary lubrication, pressure action and sliding action, thereby removing most of the lubricating oil from the gear. In order to resist the harsh environment, extreme pressure additives should be added to the lubricating oil. Top 1 lubricant adds extreme pressure additives to its gear lubricant to reduce wear and prolong the service life of gears and bearings. Since many parts of the power train are made of ferrous materials, lubricating oil is required to prevent corrosion of ferrous parts and possible corrosion of other materials. Corrosion and corrosion problems (in the transmission system) are not as common as in the engine. Many small and complex components of gear set in power transmission system will produce great noise and may bear impact load. The viscosity and extreme pressure formula of gear lubricating oil will reduce the noise of gear and dissipate the impact load. Rotation of gear sets often results in foaming of lubricating oil. If the gear lubricants form a foam, because the suspended air in the lubricating oil is compressible, the load carrying capacity will be greatly reduced. For example, when the teeth are in contact with each other, the captured bubbles will be compressed, resulting in a thinning of the thickness of the isolation film. On the contrary, thinning the thickness of the isolation film will make the teeth directly contact the metal and accelerate wear. Gear lubricating oil needs to be able to disperse the entrained air to ensure the formation of a sufficiently thick lubricating film and prevent gear contact wear.
